Your medication is reducing your appetite. It might also be reducing your muscle.
GLP-1 medications are changing what people eat. But without structured exercise, they’re also changing what people lose. Our Accredited Exercise Physiologists work alongside your GLP program to make sure the weight you lose is fat — not the muscle and strength you need to stay healthy long-term.

The problem nobody talks about
When you eat significantly less, your body doesn’t just burn fat. It breaks down muscle tissue too. Studies show that without resistance-based exercise, up to 40% of weight lost on GLP medications can come from lean muscle mass.
Less muscle means a slower metabolism, reduced strength, poorer bone density, and a much harder time maintaining your results when the medication ends.
This is the gap that exercise physiology fills.
You don't have to be fit to start
Most people beginning a GLP program are deconditioned, managing other health conditions, or haven’t exercised consistently in years. That’s exactly who we work with. Your program starts where you are — not where you think you should be.
Every exercise program is individually designed, supervised, and progressed at a pace that’s safe and sustainable for you.
Starting out (weeks 1–4)
We assess your baseline fitness, strength, and any health conditions relevant to exercise. Your initial program is low-load and focused on building consistency while your body adjusts to the medication.
Dose titration (months 1–3)
As side effects peak and energy fluctuates, we adjust your program accordingly. Exercise remains consistent — but it works with your body, not against it.
Active weight loss (months 3–6)
This is where resistance training becomes critical. We progressively load your program to maximise muscle preservation and improve body composition as weight comes off.
Maintenance and beyond
As results stabilise, we build your long-term exercise independence — the habits, strength, and confidence to keep moving well after your program ends.

Who this is for
Our GLP exercise physiology program is suited to people who are:
- Currently prescribed a GLP-1 medication (Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, or similar)
- Concerned about muscle loss, bone health, or fatigue
- Managing related conditions including type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, or obesity
- Looking to maximise and protect the results of their medication
- Preparing for life after GLP medication

FAQ
Do I need a referral?
No referral is needed for a private appointment. If your GP has given you a Medicare EPC plan, you may be eligible for up to five subsidised allied health visits per year — and exercise physiology is an approved service under this scheme.
Can I see both a dietitian and an exercise physiologist?
Yes — and this is the approach we recommend. The two disciplines work directly together at Rebound Health, coordinating your protein targets, exercise loads, and overall program so everything is pulling in the same direction.
I haven't exercised in years. Is that okay?
Completely. Deconditioned clients are the norm in this program, not the exception. Your first appointment is an assessment, not a workout — we find out where you’re starting from and build from there.
What does a session look like?
Sessions are supervised and run in our clinic. Depending on your program, they may involve resistance machines, free weights, functional movement, or cardiovascular exercise — always at an appropriate level for your current capacity and health status.
The medication is doing its job.
This program makes sure your body changes the way you actually want.
Losing weight on GLP-1 medication is real. But without structured, progressive resistance training, a significant portion of that weight is lean muscle — not fat. Protect & Build is a 12-week program designed specifically for people on Ozempic, Wegovy, or Mounjaro, built around one goal: changing your body composition, not just your weight.
Every session is prescribed and supervised by an Accredited Exercise Physiologist who understands your medication, your side effect profile, and what your body needs at each stage of your GLP-1 journey.
What’s included
Comprehensive Initial Assessment 60 minutes
Before a single exercise is prescribed, we build a complete picture — your medication status, current body composition, movement history, side effect profile, and what you actually want from this program. This is the starting point that makes everything else specific to you, not generic.
EP Sessions — individually prescribed
Your session frequency is determined by where you are in your medication journey, your current capacity, and what your body needs at each stage — not a fixed number on a package. Some clients train weekly; others attend more or less frequently depending on dose titration, side effects, and how their program is progressing. Your EP will recommend what’s right for you at your initial assessment and review it as the program evolves.
Personalised Between-Session Program
A written home program that builds on your clinic sessions, so progress continues on the days you’re not with us. Most results happen between sessions. This makes sure they do.
GLP-1 Exercise Guide
When to train around your injection day. How to manage nausea windows. How to scale back on a difficult week without losing momentum. Practical answers to the questions your GP didn’t have time to address.
Body Composition Reviews at Weeks 1, 6, and 12
We track muscle, not just weight. At each review you’ll see exactly what’s changing in your body composition — with data, not just a number on a scale.
End-of-Program Report and Forward Plan
At week 12, a full summary of your results and a clear plan for what comes next — whether that’s continued training, maintenance, or adjustment as your medication evolves.
By the end of 12 weeks, you will have:
- Protected your lean muscle through the most critical phase of your weight loss — changed your body composition, not just your weight
- Measurable strength gains and a movement baseline you can see and feel
- A consistent exercise identity — built through the right frequency for your body, not a one-size number
- Confidence in what your body is capable of, not just how it looks
- The habits and the foundation to maintain your results after the medication ends
Medicare CDM rebate may apply. If your GP has issued a Chronic Disease Management plan, you may be eligible for up to 5 rebated EP sessions per calendar year. We’ll confirm your eligibility at your first appointment and help you access the referral if you don’t already have one.
