What is PEERS® ?

The Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills (PEERS®) is an evidence-based social skills treatment program for people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), anxiety, depression, and other social challenges.

Our PEERS program provides social skills interventions for young adults motivated to improve their ability to make and keep friends and/or develop romantic relationships. Young adults attend 16 weekly 1.5 hour in-person sessions and their social coach (usually a parent, sibling, support worker, or other caregiver) attend 16 weekly group telehealth sessions for 1.5 hours.

 
  • Young adult groups include:

    • Didactic lessons

    • Role play demonstrations

    • Group socialisation activities, including role play activities to practice social skills

    • Each session is accompanied by homework assignments and practice suggestions designed to reinforce the group’s understanding of the skills learned

    • Social coach groups include:

    • Didactic lessons

    • Group discussions and review of young adult’s homework

    • Learn ways to assist the young adult with making and keeping friends and/or dating

    • Anyone aged 18-35 with social challenges (can have a diagnosis of ASD, anxiety, depression or disorder impacting social function)

    • Anyone who is able to consistently attend the program



    Note: young adult must be interested in attending the program and must agree to participate voluntarily in the program
